Product Director – AI Authoring (Evinova)
Evinova enables global life sciences to accelerate better health outcomes, by creating digital health solutions for clinical research. We are a separate business within the AstraZeneca group.
We’re hiring a Product Director to join Evinova’s Study Design and Planning team in Gaithersburg, operating at the intersection of AI, digital health, and clinical innovation. This is not a conventional Product Manager role — we’re building something new, and we need entrepreneurial product leaders who are ready to do the same.
Our context is defined by overlapping transformations. On one side, artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping how we work — augmenting creativity, accelerating collaboration between disciplines, and creating new ways to explore, test, and refine ideas. On the other side, the solution spaces we work in — clinical trials, hospital operations, and patient treatment — are also shifting rapidly, driven by new data streams, AI-powered automation, and evolving models of care – while also rooted with traditional values and practices making it important to guide customers and users, enabling their transformation journey.
As a Product Director, you’ll help us rethink and accelerate the entire product lifecycle: from identifying high-potential opportunity spaces to prototyping and iterating rapidly, to delivering validated, production-ready digital solutions. You’ll be a key partner in shaping how we use AI as a creative collaborator, not just a tool — helping us move faster and more intelligently across discovery, design, and delivery.
You will be responsible for leading and guiding the multi-disciplinary product work (persona mapping, value mapping, requirements shaping, etc.) within a small cross-functional product team. You will be accountable for our AI Authoring product strategy, and partner hands-on to deliver that vision. Your approach will –
Require an understanding of documents involved in the clinical trial process to enable connectivity and reuse of material throughout the study lifecycle.
Balance automating as much of the authoring and quality control process as possible, while ensuring humans are in the loop and empowered with collaborative editing functionality.
Consider integrations with other Evinova products and customer systems to enable downstream processes.
We’re looking for:
Deeply collaborative, T-shaped product practitioners who can understand and engage with multiple perspectives putting user and customer value first.
Highly autonomous, self-directed leaders who act with positive agency: seeking out new opportunities for collaboration, proactively navigating ambiguity, and shaping new practices as the context evolves.
AI fluency — not necessarily technical experts, but people who are curious and excited about working with generative and agentic AI as part product development process.
People who thrive in complexity, balancing near-term delivery with long-term vision, and who are energised by change and challenge rather than constrained by them.
An understanding of medical writing for clinical trials, including the documentation needed to enable trials, sources of information to create those documents, and an understanding of the regulatory landscape.
This is a chance to help define not just the future of digital health — but the future of digital design in a world where the boundaries between people, tools, and disciplines are being redrawn in real time.
Key Responsibilities:
Accountable for the full spectrum of product activities, guiding the team's work from discovery, setting of business goals, documentation of user needs, developing clear requirements, and setting roadmaps & meeting timelines in partnership with cross-functional peers.
Setting and communicating product strategy based on market demand and user research. Educating and inspiring all levels from executives to the most junior team members.
Collaborate closely with design, engineering, and data science leads of the team, to ensure cohesive strategy and delivery. Engage proactively with broader supporting teams, such as commercial, delivery, quality, strategy, and science.
Take ownership of the product, facilitating quick thoughtful decision making.
Stimulate conceptual thinking and creativity and challenge the status quo towards continuous improvement.
Work closely with other Product Managers to ensure coherent user experience, workflows, and value delivery across user domains and products.
In collaboration with others - define, plan and participate in iterative user testing and use findings to inform and improve product decisions.
Mentor and develop junior product resources, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
Develop prototypes that reflect real-world scenarios and integrate AI-driven automation.
Translate highly technical workflows into user-friendly concepts.
Key Attributes:
Experience conducting user research and customer discovery to understand stakeholder needs and translate them into actionable product requirements.
Experience in leading small teams across the product development lifecycle, with a proven track record of deploying and scaling digital solutions.
Experience developing clear user documentation and training materials to promote user adoption and proficiency.
Familiarity with clinical trials and the drug development lifecycle. Ideally, direct experience in clinical trial execution and medical writing.
Strong expertise in interaction design, and information architecture.
Proficiency with modern research, design, content design and rapid prototyping tools and methodologies in agile environments.
Excellent collaboration, and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
Experience in operating as an independent product leader on highly complex B2B or B2B2C software.
Based near Gaithersburg, with willingness to collaborate in-office.
Willingness to travel occasionally.
We also value:
Coding or software development experience.
Experience developing GXP validated software.
Experience in healthcare and/or digital health sectors.
A non-linear career path and diverse life experiences that enrich your perspective as a designer.
A second language (and every additional language is a plus).
